FAQ
1. Why electric bikes?
Electric bikes are not necessarily for staunch bicyclists. “E-bikes” are best suited for individuals who would like to get exercise but need a little assist getting up hills. They are also great for going on longer rides and then providing a little “help” in getting back home. E-bikes offer a fun experience for those who have forgotten the thrill of taking that first ride as a youngster.
2. How do pedal assist and the throttle work?
Pedal assist works automatically when you start pedaling. You do not have to switch it on as the motor will engage automatically to assist you with pedaling more easily. You can use the throttle whenever you want. When you use the throttle, you can cruise along without pedaling on flat ground. You control how fast you go by how much you turn the throttle. The motor and pedals are independent of each other so you can pedal as much or as little as you like. The more you pedal, the longer the range.
3. How much assembly is required?
E-bikes arrive mostly assembled. To ship the E-bikes, the pedals, front wheel, and sometimes the handlebar must be removed. Assembly is easy and all instructions are provided by email or with the bike. You need only basic tools like screwdrivers and allen wrenches.
4. How far can an electric bicycle go?
It depends on several factors including terrain (hills etc), wind, tire inflation, battery and motor size, weight of rider, and riding style. Most Wentz bikes will easily carry you 20 miles or further using the motor on flat ground. Hills are always a big power drain for any electric vehicle. We recommend that you assist by pedaling on hills. Depending on the number and steepness of hills, this can double or triple your travel distance. You can also increase travel distance by starting off with a few cranks of the pedals to get you going. Also, keep tires inflated properly to increase distance.
5. How long will the batteries last?
Lithium packs will last 3-5 years if you take care of them by always recharging after use. Lithium batteries are the lightest and most energy dense batteries commercially available. They should be recharged often (like a cell phone). Lithium batteries are light, environmentally friendly, and safe.
6. Can you charge the battery while riding and pedaling the bicycle?
No. All batteries are charged by plugging them in to a regular wall/household outlet.
7. Is any special license required to ride an electric bike on the streets?
E-Bikes are classified as “bicycles” in the US. This means that you can ride in bike lanes, on the road, and on sidewalks in most cities (some cities restrict bicycles from some sidewalks in some pedestrian areas). E-bikes follow the same rules and laws as bicycles. Riding an E-bike does not require a license, title, registration, or insurance.
8. Are spare parts available?
Although Wentz E-Bikes are well built and super tough, there are times when parts require replacement. Spare or replacement parts are available for each of the models we sell, including the lithium battery.
